Summer Drop/Add and Late Registration

First Week of Classes
(100% Refund)*

*Applies only to classes coded SS1 or SS2

Late Registration

Register via OneStart (onestart.iu.edu)

Students may add classes without signatures unless the class requires authorization or other approval.

A Late Registration and/or Program Change Fee may be charged. Contact the Office of the Bursar for additional information on fees.

Add a Waitlist

Waitlist requests cannot be added during the first week. Students should review their schedule online following waitlist expiration at 8:00 am on the first day of classes.

Withdraw from All Courses

Drop all courses via OneStart (onestart.iu.edu)

Electronic drop is not available on the Sunday following the first week of classes. Please plan accordingly.

Second Week of Classes

Late Registration

Register via OneStart (onestart.iu.edu) is closed.

Permission to register late or add a course after the first week of the summer session will be given only for serious cause, and only when there is sufficient reason to believe that the student will be able to complete the course successfully in spite of the late start.

A Late Request has three parts all of which must be submitted together to the Office of the Registrar (AI 148):

1. The List of Courses to be added (including the class Nbr for each).

2) A Written Statement clearly indicating a) The reason for the late registration and b) How the course work which was missed will be completed.

3) Signatures: The List of Courses and the Written Statement must be presented to the following persons for signature, in order:

  • The Associate Dean, Dean or Program Director of the Student's Academic School
  • The Instructor for the Added Course(s)
  • The Associate Dean(s), Dean, or Program Director of the Academic School offering the course(s)
  • The Vice Chancellor or Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs

A Late Registration and/or Program Change Fee will be charged. Contact the Office of the Bursar for additional information on fees.

Third and Fourth Week

Fifth through Last Week

First Summer: June 16 - June 30
Second Summer: July 4 - August 15

Withdraw (Drop) One or More Courses

Requests to withdraw after the fourth week require the signature of the instructor, advisor and the student's dean.

Additionally, they are considered only in extraordinary situations which are beyond the student's control. Poor performance in a course is not considered grounds for a late withdrawal. (According to University policy the student must be passing the course on the date of withdrawal to qualify for the grade of W. If the student is failing, the grade recorded on the date of the withdrawal will be F. - Refer to the Indiana University Academic Handbook, 2001, p. 170).

If approval is granted by the instructor, advisor, and the student's dean; take the signed form(s) to the Office of the Registrar (AI 148) for processing.

No withdrawal forms will be processed in the Office of the Registrar after the last day of classes. Requests for a withdrawal after the last day of classes must follow the grade appeal process.
