Religious Studies


Students in religious studies take coursework focusing on the nature of the religious quest, the main historical traditions of religion, and the roles that religion plays in culture and everyday life. At IU South Bend, this non-major course of study is an interdisciplinary program administered by the Religious Studies Committee.

It is not possible at this time to complete a major in the area of Religious Studies at IU South Bend.


Students in religious studies develop critical, analytical, and communication skills that are valued in many areas. Some people use this series of courses to prepare themselves for graduate programs granting MA, MDiv, or PhD degrees involving religious studies, theology, or ministerial / chaplaincy assignments. Other graduates with this specialization work in both public and private sectors, including business, nonprofit agencies, healthcare, community service, and religious organizations.
