Preparing Yourself as a Candidate for Graduate School

Here are a few ideas to prepare yourself to be a good candidate for graduate school: 

  • Publish a paper in one of IU South Bend's undergraduate journals
  • Present a paper at an undergraduate student conference
  • Attend a regional or national conference
  • Obtain a research grant
  • Attend a field school
  • Participate in an Honors Program
  • Get involved in the Sociology or Anthropology Club
  • Obtain an internship in a field of interest
  • For pre-social work students, enroll in the internship program SOC S-494 
  • Contact the Office of Student Life for service learning opportunities
  • Seek out volunteer experience that you enjoy by talking with your professor, advisor, or classmates
  • Sociology students, visit the American Sociological Association What about Graduate School page for more advice and a list of sociology associations
  • Anthropology students, visit the American Anthropological Association Student Resources page for information on field schools, internships, and funding opportunities.
