Summer Bridge 2014!
Begin college with the confidence and skills to succeed!
Save over $1,000 in tuition and fees!
At IU South Bend, we realize that college is a major investment. Our faculty and staff are committed to helping you reach your academic, professional, and personal goals. Summer Bridge is a full scholarship program designed to help first-year students build a foundation for success. Students can choose to attend a program on the IU South Bend campus or at the Elkhart Center. All cohorts meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from July 7 through August 15, 2014.
Students who successfully complete Summer Bridge will have had the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to begin English and Math at a higher level, will have enhanced their critical reading and study skills, will have enjoyed enrichment activities and integration into the campus community, and will have saved more than $1,000 in tuition and fees! The workshops are not credit-bearing, but students who successfully complete the requirements of the program will receive course waivers and have the opportunity to retake placement exams within the program.
A score at level 3 on the English placement exam is the key to eligibility for the program. All students take English and College Success workshops. Students who score at level 0, 1, or 2 on the Math placement exam also enroll in the Math workshops.
English: At the end of the program, students who have demonstrated readiness in English will receive a W130 waiver and may enroll in W131 in the fall semester. Students will be eligible to enroll in W131 by either demonstrating proficiency in written work or by retaking the English placement exam. Students who enroll in W130, the prerequisite course for W131, will find that they have benefited from the skills they gained in critical reading and writing, and that they have a solid foundation for success on which to build.
College Success: In the College Success workshop, students learn and apply skills that will help prepare them to meet the challenges and rigors of college. If conditionally admitted, students can also receive a waiver for EDUC-U100 Threshold Seminar.
Math: Scores of 0, 1, and 2 place students into A100, a prerequisite math course that does not apply towards a student’s degree plan. The Math workshops provide students the opportunity to refresh their math skills and retake the placement exam at the end of program.
