Funding Your Research
At IU South Bend, the SMART Program is the primary internal source of funding for short-term and long-term research projects. It offers the following competitive awards (visit the links for application instructions):
- Expense Grants: funds for supplies, travel necessary for the research project, and other research-related costs. Average funding: $300.
- Travel Grants: funds for travel to conferences or workshops. Average funding: $500.
- Internship Grants: funds for travel and other expenses related to an off-campus research internship. Maximum funding: $2,000.
- Summer Fellowships: support for students to work full time on a major research project over the summer. Maximum funding: $3,400.
